Passengers travelling to and from the Isles of Scilly on board the Scillonian III this summer have raised a massive 2,500 for Cornwall Hospice Care.
Since May, there has been a collection every fortnight with the milestone figure being reached at the end of September.
Marcia Still, Purser on the Scillonian III organised the collection for Cornwall Hopsice Care says Were thrilled that the passengers on the Scillonian III have been so generous in their donations this year, she commented. It is a pleasure for us to help support the fantastic work done by Cornwall Hospice Care and we look forward to continuing our partnership with them next year.
Cornwall Hospice Care runs the Mount Edgcumbe Hospice in St Austell and St Julias Hospice in Hayle. Running costs are more than 6 million per year, and 80 per cent of funding comes from charitable donations.
Rosie Wiltshire from Cornwall Hospice Care said: We are delighted that the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company has chosen to support adult hospice care in Cornwall. This is a fantastic total, and will make a real difference to the patients and families that we help. We are so grateful to all those who helped to make this collection such a success, as without fundraising like this we would be unable to meet the costs of running our two hospices, which provide the only adult hospice care in Cornwall.
Jackie Hayman, Marketing Manager for the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company, added: The charity collections on the Scillonian III are always very well received, but this year the donations have been especially high, raising almost double the amount collected last year. Wed like to thank all of our passengers for giving so willingly.
