Steamship Company celebrates 15 years investing in people

The Isles of Scilly Steamship Company is celebrating 15 years of being recognised by Investors in People, the UK�s leading people management standard, it has been announced today (17 September 2010).
The Penzance-based company, which operates the airline Skybus and ship Scillonian III, was first awarded the certificate in 1995 and currently employs around 150 staff. Now in its 90th year in business, the company operates lifeline passenger and freight services between the mainland and the Isles of Scilly.
Investors in People offer a business improvement tool and framework designed to help organisations develop their performance through people. It provides tailored assessments designed to support organisations in planning, implementing and evaluating effective strategies.
To maintain the high standards of the Investors in People certification, the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company has updated training programmes, reviewed yearly appraisal processes, focussed on people management to benefit the staff and offered more opportunities for employee feedback.
Jeff Marston, Chief Executive of the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company said: �We are extremely pleased to have been awarded the Investors in People certificate for the 15th year running. The Investors in People certificate operates on the basis that skilled and motivated employees are central to the success of a business, and defines a level of best practice for the training and development of workers.
The Isles of Scilly Steamship Company also owns and operates freight ships the Gry Maritha and Ivor B, as well as Penzance Dry Dock and Land�s End Airport.
