A lucky couple from Wadebridge have just returned from a trip to the Isles of Scilly, after winning the prize in a Cornishman, West Briton and Cornish Guardian Whats On competition at the Royal Cornwall Show.
Maureen and John Taylor (pictured) were picked out of the draw which was organised by the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company on their stand at the annual agricultural event in June. It also ran in the Cornishman, West Briton and Cornishman newspapers.
The couple won free flights with Skybus and accommodation for a weekend break. They travelled from Lands End Airport to St Marys on Skybus and stayed for two nights at the Sylina Guesthouse.
The first prize in the draw was four nights at the St Marys Hall Hotel and was won by Mr and Mrs Medlyn from Falmouth, who will be travelling to the Scillies in September.
Jackie Gwennap from the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company said, The prize draw was hugely successful this year and we were really busy promoting the Isles of Scilly to hundreds of people at the Royal Cornwall Show. Were delighted that Maureen and John had such an enjoyable time on St Marys and its great that they are telling other people about just what the islands has to offer visitors all year round.
The couple have been visiting the Isles of Scilly for over 30 years and generally travel to St Agnes for five weeks a year two weeks at the beginning of the year and three weeks in September.
Samantha Mallon, owner of Sylina Guesthouse on St Marys commented: Maureen and John had only ever won a box of chocolates before and were so excited about this prize, as they absolutely love Scilly. I know that they were really pleased to have revisited this part of St Marys. Maureen is like the Scillies own publicity officer she told everyone how wonderful the islands are and now were seeing lots of people from Wadebridge visit!
