Birthday Challenge to visit 44 Lifeboat stations in 33 days

On Thursday 7th May, St Marys RNLI Lifeboat Station will host the start of one mans ambitious journey by foot and boat to visit every lifeboat station on the South Coast in just 33 days to raise money and awareness for the RNLI.

Lifelong RNLI supporter Nick Power from Surrey aims to complete his challenge of visiting all 44 lifeboat stations on the South Coast, from the Isles of Scilly to Teddington Weir in London, by his 30th birthday on 5th June.

The Isles of Scilly Steamship Company has supported the first leg of Nicks fundraising feat by providing free passage aboard the Scillionian III from Penzance to St Marys. After a brief visit to the Lifeboat station on St Marys on Thursday, Nick will return to the mainland to make his way to his next stop at Sennen Cove on the first day of his fundraising challenge.

As if his month long journey along the south coast wasnt ambitious enough, throughout his trip Nick will be indulging his passion for angling by taking part in a series of sea fishing matches and challenges which have been set for him by the online sea fishing community over the past six months, whilst he has prepared for his trip.

Ahead of his fundraising mission Nick Power said: I really wanted to do something exciting to mark my 30th birthday and thought that if I did something crazy enough I could raise money for the RNLI at the same time. I saw that there where 44 lifeboat stations on the South Coast and discovered that the challenge of visiting all of them had only been achieved once before by someone on a motorbike.

Ive been planning my trip since October and have been delighted with the support that Ive had from fellow anglers who have agreed to help me with lifts on their boats and challenged me to various fishing events. The longest trip Ill be taking by sea will be on the Scillonian III and Im really pleased that the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company has helped me to get my challenge of to a good start.

Jeff Marston, Chief Executive of the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company said: Were often asked to help local charities and groups to raise money by providing complimentary Scillonian tickets for competitions but I think that this is certainly one of the more unusual requests weve received. The RNLI do an incredible job and were delighted to support Nick and his challenge by providing transport between the Isles of Scilly and the mainland so that he can raise funds for the RNLI whilst promoting the work of the charity.
